Dunes are the coast's first natural defence.
Dune vegetation binds the sand, slows the wind and protects everything further inland. It is a delicate system: walking on it outside the marked paths does real damage, so it is crossed carefully and by the paths provided.
In the episode of «Más allá del mar» devoted to the dunes, Andrés Barba walks them with Carolina Bonhomo, of the Environment Department at Rota Town Council, to explain how they work and why they are worth conserving.
